Lionel Messi wins FIFA Best Award; Best Female Player Aitana Bonmati

Messi, Hollande and Mbappe did not reach the ceremony

London ∙ Argentina’s Lionel Messi has been awarded FIFA’s Best Player award again, beating Erling Holland and Kylian Mbappe. This is the 8th time that Messi has won the FIFA World Player of the Year award.

Messi won FIFA World Player of the Year once, FIFA Ballon d’Or 4 times and FIFA Best 3 times. But Hollande, Messi and Mbappe did not attend the ceremony in London. Aitana Bonmati, the player of Spain and Barcelona won the award for the best female player.

Pep Guardiola, the coach of City Club won the award for the best men’s team coach. Guardiola won the award last season after leading English Premier League club Manchester City to the treble. Sarina Wiegman, the coach of the England women’s team who reached the World Cup final, won the award for the best women’s team coach. This is the fourth time Wiegmann has won the FIFA Best award.

Manchester City’s Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson won the award for the best male goalkeeper. England and Manchester United star Mary Earps is the best female goalkeeper. Guillerme Madruga of Brazilian club Botafogo won the Puskas Award for the best goal. The Brazil men’s soccer team won the Fairplay Award for Sportsmanship for its fight against racism.
